 Wilderness School

“From wonder into wonder, existence opens”

The North Cascades Wilderness School, a 22 acre facility located at the upper end of the Methow Valley in Washington State, offers wilderness based educational programs for children 11-17 yrs of age.

We are not a traditional summer camp but a combination of adventure and educational programs striving to accomplish one objective; the re-unification of youth to nature through two approaches. First, by seeing through “native eyes”, educating you on your surroundings from a naturalist (animal and plant identification, animal tracking, natural history), environmentalism (principles of forest stewardship, permaculture, and restoration) and indigenous (shelter construction from natural materials, locating and purifying water, creating fire from friction) perspective. Second, experiencing first hand what nature and the wilderness have to offer by learning the skills to rock and ice climb, glacier travel, hike, backpack, white water raft, canoe and orienteering.

                                                                                                                      .

Whether you are new to the wilderness or have experience we guarantee we offer a program that will lay a leadership base to grow from, leave you with a better appreciation for nature and provide the skills necessary to enjoy the wilderness safely.
